Oil and Congressional Wisdom?

We are either sitting on or are surrounded by enough oil to meet domestic demand for the foreseeable future.  When you add the potential of shale oil to the mix, we become the world's largest oil cartel.

As the per barrel price of oil increases on a daily basis and as we completely rearrange our lives as the price of gas destroys our budgets, our congress tells us, "we can't drill our way out of the problem."

Saudi Arabia says it doesn't see any need to increase supply, our supply from Mexico is endangered because of outdated equipment and drug wars, and Hugo Chavez, a complete hostile to the United States, just nationalized his oil reserves.

Islamic fundamentalists are sabotaging the Nigerian supply, Israel is gearing up to take out Iran's nuclear program and Iran has threatened to choke off the Strait of Hormuz to oil traffic should they try.

And what does our congress propose to meet this very real threat to our economy and national security?  Lower the speed limit to 55.  by doing so, we save some 180,000 barrels of oil per day they claim.  When you compare that to a 23 million per day usage you get less than one percent relief and that is if you trust their numbers.

As for ANWR, the area designated for exploration is 2000 acres out of 19.6 million acres.  Do the math.  That is less than one ten thousandth of one percent of the total area.  Please present the charts that clearly show that 99.999% of the Polar Bears and Caribou live on that spot.  Better yet, please provide the annual tourist data for that location.

The danger to our national security outweighs environmental extremism.  The instability of the oil supply by those nations on which we most depend, demands we become self sufficient.  We face the very real potential for the collapse of our entire energy and economic infrastructure and all congress can do is come up with slogans and investigate the oil companies.

We need an investigation allright, an investigation into just why in the hell congress is the key impediment to the solution of the problem.

Left Brain

I usually attempt some objectivity in my posts and even though I do speak ill of Democrat policies, I try not to make intentional derogatory or inflammatory comments about the liberal mentality.  The more I read comments from the left however and specifically that which equates Republicans, and worse conservatives, as a sub-species of Neanderthal, I have to return a volley of my own.

My impatience with liberal logic stems from their insistence to defend the indefensible.  Specifically, the "cheap shot" by retired General Wesley Clark and his callous remark with respect to John McCain's military service.  While it is contextually accurate that Sen. McCain's military service does not necessarily make him qualified to be the President of the United States, anyone with half a brain would understand that the comment was intended to minimize his service when evaluating McCain vs. Obama.

What is it about the "Left Brain," or more succinctly, what is left of their brain that is incapable of rational thought?  It is now quite clear that those on the left don't think. They obtain their directions and decision criteria from the media. No wonder Obama is such a deity to the left. Everyone involved from the general himself to Obama quickly downplayed the remark and insisted that is was meant purely in the context in which it was made.  The deed was done however and the mainstream press immediately went to work to paint a picture of the insignificance of McCain's service as it relates to November's elections.

In this instance, the talking point was introduced by Wesley Clark. It was amplified by the press and now the only thing that is left of what the left brain can process is that McCain's military experience doesn't qualify him to be president. Amazing!  Proof of the degradation of the mental process of objective ability in the left brain, is that such logic would have to lead to the conclusion: If exceptional military experience does not equal qualification for president, then no experience is an automatic reject.

The left bases its logic on Obama's qualification as one of judgment and character. Bingo! By that logic, everything from his indiscretions with illegal substances in his youth, to the highly questionable character of those with whom he associates, Obama should be toast.  I can seem them now in my mind's eye, skipping down the lane singing "if I only had a brain."  What moves me to near depression is that the brain dead are legally allowed to vote in spite of their impediment.
